Santa Rosa Community Farmers' Market
After a busy and exciting week at Sonoma County Builders, Bill and I were looking for something fun to do in Santa Rosa this past Saturday morning. After discussing a few different options, we decided to take a walk to the Santa Rosa Community Farmers' Market. This year-round farmers' market, is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30-1:00 pm and is located at the Veterans' Memorial Building at 1351 Maple Ave in Santa Rosa. (An additional benefit for us was upping our step counts for the day with this 1 hour round trip walk!!).
We arrived just after the 8:30 stated opening time and were pleased to see a large number of booths ready to go. The vendors included a fun and unique variety of produce, art, jewelry, hot food, coffee, tea, and baked goods! There was so much to choose from! We've highlighted a selection but this is not an exhaustive list of all vendors that were present. We've also linked vendors where we were able to find website or Facebook pages to link to.
We started off with a delicious pour over coffee from Bella Rosa Coffee. Have you ever experienced a pour over? We hadn't, and this was delicious with none of that acidic finish that coffee sometimes has! If you love great coffee, you'll definitely want to check them out!
Once we were properly (and deliciously) caffeinated, we were ready to visit the other vendors.
We happened upon this sign for Nicky's Breakfast Burritos. Although we didn't see any burritos, we DID see some incredible looking pastries...
Wow, their offerings looked amazing! I don't know how anyone could choose just one! That blackberry galette is LIFE!
We had so much fun looking at the art and craft vendors' wares. Our area has so many talented artisans! We especially enjoyed looking at the jewelry, soaps, and tie-dyed clothing!
There was also a beautiful selection of plants and flowers, including pumpkin blossoms (which are actually edible--who knew?!)
We enjoyed poring over a vast array of fruits and vegetables--but holy moly, where to begin??? Some of the farms represented were Tolay Family Farms, Eddie's Farm, J & J Ramos Farms, Soda Rock Farms, and Anguiano's Farm. So many gorgeous fruits and vegetables!
After walking around and enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells, we were ready for breakfast. So many great options!! We had a difficult time choosing between the samplings offered by the great variety of food vendors! We didn't get a picture of the man in the vintage travel trailer selling waffles but they sure looked great!!
In the end, we chose porchetta (from a booth of the same name) which is roasted pork, fried and served with grilled onions-- this was amazing! Bill topped off his porchetta with this lobster filled African gumapie from Gumax San Francisco, which he said had the perfect hint of spiciness!
Live music by Hank Levine was the perfect accompaniment to our meal.
After finishing our breakfast, we perused a few more booths. We loved sampling delicious cheeses and kefir from Achadinha Cheese Company! Tea and Trumpets, Red Bird Bakery, Santa Rosa Seafood, and Bee Haven Honey had wonderful options! We couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy ground lamb and bacon from Green Star Farm.
The Sonoma County Master Gardeners were on hand to answer gardening questions, too!
We definitely had to grab some of these gorgeous sunflowers before finishing our trip to the market!
A quick walk back and we were home happily reviewing our purchases (and a few natural treasures we gathered on our walk home!). What a fun time!
We can't wait to try sautéing the pumpkin blossoms tonight!!
We definitely recommend checking out the Santa Rosa Community Market! What a great way to learn about and support local growers and makers! Have you attended this market before? Who are your favorite vendors? What other local markets do you like to attend? Let us know in the comments below!
